A message from butterfly jewelry designer Martina Macdonald.

I create my jewelry like my paintings, mixing up coloured beads in
a salad bowl. Strangers used to stop to ask where I got my jewelry. They seemed to be happy just looking at it and then I realized how much I love to see people happy.

I began to go bead-hunting wherever I was. Even from the tiniest village at the end of the world, I would come home with beads. My mother and sisters in Austria help me, as well as my sister in Paris. In our regular phone calls, they are proud to announce a new discovery. And each time we meet, I get a big bag of the most beautiful beads. Dear friends and aunties empty their drawers for me, giving me necklaces and beads with stories which become part of my creations.

Somehow it is like a little message that goes from one person to the other, as beads from one necklace are used in up to 20 different creations.

People who have never met share something intangible-a happy memory, a good feeling-it is like magic! Every piece I create is hugged, kissed and loved. I want everybody to have a little piece of happiness, be it in a tiny bead.

When Annabelle and I met, we knew in a moment that we had something to do together. Her energy and enthusiasm gave me the discipline and joy to create a basket full of butterflies. Each is unique. Each has a story -maybe even yours!
